Elijah Papalios launches three-run homer during late comeback attempt
XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts mounted a late comeback attempt Sunday evening, scoring six runs over the final two innings before falling 11-6 to the Lima Locos at Grady's Field.
Facing an 11-run deficit entering the bottom of the eighth, the Scouts continued to battle and cut into the Locos' advantage with a strong offensive finish.
Lima built an early lead with four runs in the opening inning and added single runs in the second and third before extending its advantage throughout the middle innings. The Locos carried an 11-0 lead into the eighth inning behind a strong performance from their starting pitcher.
The Scouts broke through in the eighth inning when Bo Solley reached on an error that allowed Drew Snipes to score. Later in the inning, Zachary Pearrow drove in a run on a groundout as Xenia trimmed the deficit to 11-2.
The offense continued to push in the ninth. Elijah Papalios delivered the biggest swing of the night with a three-run home run to left field, bringing home Dawson Cleveland and Cayden Calloway. Mayo Fernandez added an RBI later in the inning as the Scouts scored four more runs before the comeback attempt came to an end.
Papalios finished with three RBI, while Solley collected two hits and scored a run. Drew Snipes crossed the plate twice, and Calloway and Cleveland each scored during the late rally.
On the mound, Ryan Redding provided 2.2 innings of relief and allowed just two runs, while Cooper Schutte tossed a scoreless ninth inning in his pitching debut of the season.
The Scouts return to action looking to carry the momentum from their late offensive surge as they look to face the Flag City Sluggars on Tuesday.
