Jack Drew collects three hits as Scouts fall to Muskegon
XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts fell 8-2 to the Muskegon Clippers on Tuesday evening after the visitors used a four-run first inning to seize early control at Grady's Field.
The Clippers scored six runs through the first three innings and never relinquished the lead, handing the Scouts their fifth loss of the season.
Muskegon struck quickly in the opening inning, collecting four runs on four hits to build an early advantage. The Clippers added two more runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-0.
The Scouts broke through in the fifth inning when Mayo Fernandez lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Jack Drew for Xenia's first run of the evening. Bo Solley later added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to score Ethan Papalios and account for the final run by the Scouts.
Drew paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, recording nearly half of Xenia's seven hits. Cooper Schutte added a double, while Ethan Moore and Bo Solley each collected hits in the contest.
On the mound, Elijah Papalios provided 2.1 innings of relief and allowed just one run while striking out two. Ryan Redding followed with 2.2 innings and surrendered only one run, while Zachary Pearrow closed the game with 1.1 scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Sid Phillips (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs over 2.2 innings.
The Scouts return to action Thursday to face the Clippers in a double-header.
