Scouts Hold Hamilton Scoreless in Second Straight Victory

XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts earned their second consecutive victory Sunday afternoon, defeating the Hamilton Joes 5-0 behind a dominant pitching performance at Grady's Field, earning the series win.
Will Johnson, Caleb Shreve and Ryan Redding combined to limit Hamilton to just four hits as the Scouts recorded their first shutout victory of the season.
Xenia broke through in the first inning when Steven Schneider scored on a stolen base and an error before two more runs were added in the fifth. Dawson Cleveland drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Steven Schneider, and Mayo Fernandez later crossed the plate on a Hamilton throwing error to extend the lead.
The Scouts added another insurance run in the sixth when Owen Roether worked a bases-loaded walk to score Drew Snipes, and Hamilton was unable to mount a late rally against Xenia's bullpen.
Johnson set the tone with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out four. Caleb Shreve followed with three scoreless innings to earn the victory, and Ryan Redding closed out the final three innings for his first save of the season.
Schneider scored twice and reached base three times, while Solley reached base twice, stole two bases and scored a run. Dawson Cleveland recorded a hit and an RBI, and Drew Snipes, Cooper Schutte and Schneider each added a hit as the Scouts combined for six stolen bases.
The Scouts now head to the All Star Break before playing their last series against the Copperheads.
