XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts mounted a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Hamilton Joes held on for an 8-4 victory Thursday night at Grady's Field.
After being held scoreless through eight innings, Xenia sent nine batters to the plate in the ninth and brought the potential tying run into the on-deck circle before Hamilton recorded the final out.
Mayo Fernandez opened the late push with a hit, and Drew Snipes followed by reaching base. Steven Schneider then lined a two-run single into center field to put the Scouts on the scoreboard.
Bo Solley and Owen Roether reached to keep the inning alive before Ethan Moore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home Schneider. Dawson Cleveland followed with an RBI single to left field that scored Solley and cut the deficit to four.
Schneider led the Scouts with two hits and two RBIs, while Fernandez also recorded a two-hit performance that included a double. Cleveland drove in a run, and Roether reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Adam Pitts provided three innings of relief for Xenia, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one. Dylan Frymoyer was charged with the loss.
The Scouts head to Hamilton to face the Joes in an away game.
