Scouts Unable to Capitalize in Loss to Sluggers
Scouts draw seven walks but are limited to two hits
FINDLAY, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts dropped a 10-0 decision to the Flag City Sluggers on Tuesday night after the hosts built an early lead and never looked back.
Despite drawing seven walks, the Scouts were limited to two hits as Flag City pulled away with runs in five different innings.
The Sluggers struck for three runs in the opening inning behind RBI hits before adding single runs in the second and third innings to extend the lead to 5-0.
Flag City continued to build its advantage with two runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double from Mickey Anderson and added a two-run home run by William Barnes in the fifth. The Sluggers scored once more in the seventh to complete the scoring.
Gabe Mathison and Drew Snipes each collected one of Xenia's two hits, while Mayo Fernandez reached base three times on walks. The Scouts put runners on throughout the evening but were unable to break through offensively.
On the mound, JT McLaughlin (0-1) was charged with the loss after working three innings. Adam Laski added two innings of relief, and Elijah Papalios finished the final 1.2 innings for the Scouts.
Xenia returns to action Wednesday as Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League play continues.
