Scouts Battle Through Doubleheader Finale
Monarchs pitching limits Scouts to three hits in doubleheader finale
HILLSDALE, Michigan – The Xenia Scouts dropped the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, falling 8-0 to the Michigan Monarchs at Hill Stadium.
Michigan struck for five runs in the opening inning and never looked back, while the Monarchs' pitching staff held the Scouts to three hits throughout the seven-inning contest.
The Monarchs loaded the bases early and capitalized with back-to-back bases-loaded walks before they delivered a two-run single to center field. A sacrifice fly later in the inning capped the five-run frame and gave Michigan an early advantage.
The Monarchs added two more runs in the fourth inning behind RBI singles before plating their final run in the fifth.
Steven Schneider, Bo Solley and Gabe Mathison each collected a hit for the Scouts, while Xenia turned two double plays defensively to limit additional scoring opportunities.
On the mound, Dylan Frymoyer was charged with the loss after working 1.1 innings. Caleb Shreve followed with 2.1 innings of relief, allowing two runs, while Adam Laski closed the final 2.1 innings and surrendered one run.
The Scouts play their final game against the Monarchs on Sunday afternoon.
