HILLSDALE, Michigan – The Xenia Scouts struck first Saturday afternoon, but a four-run second inning by the Michigan Monarchs proved to be the difference in a 5-2 loss at Hill Stadium.
Xenia opened the scoring when Bo Solley crossed the plate on a balk after Gabe Mathison advanced to third, giving the Scouts a 1-0 advantage. The Monarchs then responded with four runs in the second.
The Scouts cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Drew Snipes scored on a wild pitch, but the Monarchs answered in the bottom half as an RBI single restored the three-run advantage.
Mathison led the Scouts offensively with a 2-for-4 performance, while Bo Solley and Drew Snipes each recorded a hit. Snipes also scored one of Xenia's two runs.
On the mound, Jaydon Geraci went six innings for the Scouts, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four.
