Scouts Fall to Hamilton After Late Rally
Luke Scott keeps Scouts within striking distance through five innings
XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts dropped a 14-1 decision to the Hamilton Joes on Sunday evening after an eight-run seventh inning broke open what had been a competitive game through the middle innings.
The Scouts held Hamilton scoreless through the first three innings before the Joes scored in four consecutive innings to secure the victory.
Hamilton broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with three runs before adding two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to build a 6-0 lead. The Joes then erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Xenia avoided the shutout in the bottom of the seventh when Steven Schneider came around to score on a Hamilton fielding error.
Schneider and Trey Tipton accounted for the Scouts' two hits, with Schneider collecting a double. The Scouts were held to two hits while Hamilton's pitching staff struck out two and did not issue a walk.
On the mound, Luke Scott worked five innings, allowing five runs—three earned—while striking out six. Ryan Redding and Caleb Shreve combined to finish the game in relief.
The Scouts return to Grady's Field on Tuesday to face the Grand Lake Mariners as they begin the second half of the season.
