Sixth Inning Lifts Sluggers Past Scouts
Caleb Shreve tosses 2.1 scoreless innings in relief
FINDLAY, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts carried a one-run deficit into the sixth inning Monday night before the Flag City Sluggers used a five-run frame to secure a 7-1 victory.
The Scouts stayed within striking distance throughout the first five innings, but the Sluggers capitalized on timely hits in the sixth to pull away.
Xenia struck first in the opening inning when Ethan Moore lined an RBI single through the right side, scoring Zachary Pearrow and giving the Scouts an early 1-0 advantage.
Flag City answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first and maintained its slim lead through the middle innings. The game remained a 2-1 contest until the sixth, when the Sluggers plated five runs to extend their advantage.
Mayo Fernandez led the Scouts offensively with two hits, while Moore drove in Xenia's lone run. Ethan Papalios added a double as the Scouts finished with five hits on the evening.
On the mound, Caleb Shreve provided a strong relief appearance, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out two and allowing no hits. Sid Phillips was charged with the loss after allowing two runs over four innings.
The Scouts face the Sluggers once again in Findlay on Tuesday night.
