Locos Defeat Scouts Using a Big Fifth Inning
Trey Tipton collects two hits as Scouts fall to Lima Locos
LIMA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts dropped a 9-1 decision to the Lima Locos on Saturday evening at Simmons Field.
The Locos scored two runs in the opening inning and used a six-run fifth inning to pull away, improving their position atop the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League standings.
Lima struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, taking advantage of a wild pitch before adding an RBI single to build a 2-0 lead.
The game remained within reach until the fifth inning when the Locos plated six runs on four hits, highlighted by a two-run double. The inning extended Lima's advantage to 8-0 and provided the decisive momentum.
Xenia broke through in the ninth inning when Trey Tipton reached base and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Mayo Fernandez, preventing the shutout and accounting for the Scouts' lone run of the evening.
Tipton led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and a stolen base, while Cole Rohlmeier recorded the Scouts' other hit.
On the mound, Luke Scott (0-2) was charged with the loss. Gabe Mathison closed the game with a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one.
The Scouts return to action Sunday, facing the Locos at home.
