Xenia Claims Series with Win over Clippers in Extra Innings
Drew Snipes scores winning run in the ninth-inning
XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts battled back and forth with the Muskegon Clippers before securing a 5-4 walk-off victory Thursday evening at Grady's Field.
After seeing a three-run lead disappear, the Scouts remained resilient and pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to improve to 7-5 on the season.
Xenia struck first in the opening inning when Cole Rohlmeier delivered an RBI single to score Gabe Mathison. After Muskegon answered with two runs in the third, the Scouts responded immediately as Ethan Moore lined a two-run triple and Gavin Kent followed with an RBI single to put Xenia back in front, 4-2.
The Clippers gradually worked their way back into the game, scoring once in the fourth inning and adding the tying run in the sixth to even the score at 4-4.
Despite the tie, the Scouts continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the contest. Xenia collected 14 hits, including three-hit performances from Rohlmeier, Jack Drew and Mayo Fernandez.
The decisive moment came in the ninth inning. With the tie breaking inning, Drew Snipes reached base and later scored the winning run on a wild pitch, giving the Scouts their second victory of the day over Muskegon.
Moore paced the offense with two RBI, while Rohlmeier finished with three hits and an RBI. Fernandez added three hits, and Mathison and Drew each recorded multi-hit performances.
On the mound, JT McLaughlin allowed three runs across four innings before Will Johnson provided 2.2 innings of relief. Adam Laski (2-0) earned the victory after recording the final four outs and holding Muskegon scoreless.
The Scouts return to action looking to build on their momentum after securing a pair of victories over the Clippers.
