Scouts Defeat Monarchs in an Inning Seven Rally
Drew drives in four runs as Xenia completes another comeback victory against the Monarchs
XENIA, Ohio – For the second consecutive night, the Xenia Scouts erased a significant deficit and rallied for a dramatic victory, defeating the Michigan Monarchs 11-10 Saturday evening at Grady's Field.
Trailing 8-1 in the fifth inning and later facing a 10-8 deficit in the eighth, the Scouts continued to chip away before scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the comeback and improve to 4-4 on the season.
Michigan took control with a seven-run fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Monarchs carried an 8-1 advantage before Xenia responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Jack Drew sparked the comeback effort throughout the night. After driving in a run on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth, Drew launched a two-run home run in the seventh to bring the Scouts within three runs. Later in the inning, Mason Golabek delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to 9-8. Ethan Moore also delivered a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Monarchs added a run in the top of the eighth, but Xenia answered once again. Drew drove in Mayo Fernandez with an RBI single before consecutive wild pitches allowed Steven Schneider and Drew to score, giving the Scouts their first lead since the opening inning.
Drew finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead the offense. Moore added a two-run home run and finished with two hits and two RBI, while Golabek contributed two RBI. Mayo Fernandez scored three times, and Schneider crossed the plate twice in the victory.
On the mound, Trey Tipton (1-1) improved his record on the season when he got the win with 1.1 innings of relief. Mack Skeels (SV, 1) recorded a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory for the Scouts and earning a save.
The Scouts return to action Sunday looking to build on their momentum after securing back-to-back comeback wins.
