Copperheads Rally Past Scouts in Pitchers' Duel

ATHENS, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts carried a one-run lead into the sixth inning Friday night, but the Southern Ohio Copperheads scored three runs in the bottom of the frame to claim a 3-1 victory at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Scouts received another strong outing from Trey Tipton and held Southern Ohio to just four hits, but the Copperheads capitalized on their opportunities in the sixth to erase Xenia's lead.

After four scoreless innings, the Scouts broke through in the fifth. Mack Skeels crossed the plate on a passed ball after Cooper Schutte advanced to third, giving Xenia a 1-0 advantage.

Southern Ohio answered in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single that put the Copperheads in front. An additional run scored later in the inning on a passed ball to extend the lead to 3-1.

Dawson Cleveland paced the Scouts with two hits, including a double, while Cooper Schutte added a pair of hits and stole a base. Mack Skeels scored Xenia's lone run as the Scouts finished with five hits.

Tipton turned in another quality start, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits over six innings while striking out six. Adam Pitts followed with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out two, before Logan Bach recorded the final out.

The Scouts face the Copperheads one last time down in Athens on Saturday.
