MUSKEGON, Michigan – The Xenia Scouts totaled nine hits Wednesday night, but the Muskegon Clippers used a pair of big innings to claim an 11-2 victory.
Despite out-hitting the Clippers 9-6, the Scouts were unable to overcome a pair of multi-run rallies by Muskegon.
Xenia struck first in the opening inning when Owen Roether lined an RBI double to center field, scoring Steven Schneider for an early 1-0 lead.
The Clippers answered with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first before a two-run home run in the third. Muskegon then broke the game open with five runs in the fourth.
The Scouts picked up their second run in the sixth inning when Ethan Papalios drove home Cole Rohlmeier with an RBI single.
Roether led the offense with two hits, including an RBI double, while Papalios added two hits and an RBI. Schneider, Jack Drew and Rohlmeier each collected doubles, giving Xenia five extra-base hits on the night. The Scouts also drew seven walks.
Will Johnson turned in a strong relief appearance, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out two. JT McLaughlin was charged with the loss after starting 3.2 innings.
