Pitchers' Duel Slips Away from Scouts in Lima
Trey Tipton strikes out seven as Xenia falls in one-run battle
LIMA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts dropped a tightly contested 2-1 decision to the Lima Locos on Saturday night in a game dominated by pitching at Simmons Field.
The Scouts received a strong outing from Trey Tipton and held the Locos to just three hits, but Lima scored twice in the fifth inning to erase Xenia's lead and secure the victory.
After four scoreless innings, Xenia broke through in the top of the fifth. Drew Snipes lined an RBI double to left field, bringing home Ethan Moore and giving the Scouts a 1-0 advantage.
Lima answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning by stealing home before delivering an RBI double down the left-field line to give the Locos a 2-1 lead.
The Scouts were unable to generate another scoring opportunity as Lima's bullpen closed out the final two innings.
Tipton turned in one of his strongest starts of the season, allowing just two runs on three hits across six innings while striking out seven. Xenia's defense also turned a double play behind the right-hander to help keep the game within reach.
Snipes accounted for the Scouts' lone hit with his RBI double, while Moore scored Xenia's only run.
