Scouts Take Down Sluggers Behind Strong Pitching
Trey Tipton strikes out eight while Luke Scott earns first save
XENIA, Ohio – The Xenia Scouts scored four runs in the opening inning and relied on a strong performance from their pitching staff to defeat the Flag City Sluggers 4-2 Thursday evening at Grady's Field.
The Scouts capitalized on early opportunities at the plate before Trey Tipton and Luke Scott combined to limit the Sluggers to just four hits in the victory.
Xenia wasted little time taking control. Cole Rohlmeier opened the scoring with an RBI double before Ethan Moore followed with an RBI single later in the inning. The Scouts added two more runs on a throwing error and a wild pitch to build a 4-0 advantage after one inning.
Flag City answered with two runs in the fourth inning, but the Scouts' pitching staff prevented any further damage the rest of the way.
Tipton earned the victory after tossing seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Scott worked the final two innings without allowing a hit, striking out one to earn his first save of the season.
Rohlmeier and Gabe Mathison each collected two hits to lead the offense, while Moore drove in a run and scored once. Ethan Papalios and Cooper Schutte also added hits as the Scouts finished with eight hits in the contest.
The Scouts look to take on the Hamilton Joes on Friday night.
