Bio
Ted and his wife Jennifer have been married 25 years and have 3 adult children-Jimmy, Josh and Rachel. An experienced coach, he has helped players thrive and play with joy at every level between little league and collegiate summer baseball. Ted is a 30-year military veteran including multiple operational deployments. He is also an ordained minister who has served both as a military chaplain and church pastor. Jesus transformed Ted’s life and his mission is to show God’s love to others.
Ted is a full-time missionary serving as the Athletes in Action (AIA) Baseball Operations Coordinator, as well as coaching our summer teams. He also is the project lead for our AIA Argentina partnership, which involves helping our Argentina partners grow the game of baseball while sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
From 2020-2025 Ted served on the coaching staff for the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks of the Alaska Baseball League, as an Assistant Coach (through 2022) and as Associate Head Coach (2023-2025). He is so thankful for what God has done through the Chinooks both on and off the field, and in the community. Three of his Chinooks players have gone on to play professionally, several have started their coaching careers, and even more importantly many continue to walk with Jesus and be the men that God created them to be.
Ted started the baseball program at Grace Christian High School in Anchorage, AK and was the Head Coach from 2015-2022. He remains amazed how God provided in miraculous ways to begin this program and use it as a light to the Alaska baseball community. Nine of his Grizzlies players went on to play collegiate sports, and he is so proud of how Coach Troy Hervey (another AIA Baseball alumni) continues to lead the Grizzlies program as they compete for the Lord. In 2023, Hervey renamed the team’s annual spiritual leadership award to “the Ted McGovern Spiritual Leadership Award” in recognition of Ted’s service to God and Grace Christian baseball and athletics.
Ted also coached youth baseball for many years to include travel ball as well as staff for Players Edge Sports Academy. He also coached basketball at Grace Christian from 2015-2018, serving as the JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach, including the team that won the 3A Boys State Championship in 2017.
